PROCRASTINATING
XIAO MING?
Ever wondered what happened to the famous Xiao Ming from Primary 4 compositions after his last adventure ended? Well, it turns out that he hasn’t done anything since, and has decided to procrastinate his life away.
That’s a pretty bad ending for Xiao Ming.
And so we wanted to find a way to motivate him (and you and me) to #GetItStarted. With the help of Xiao Ming, we created this campaign to help others fight procrastination and become more productive.
The big idea behind this campaign is for people to take the first step towards productivity. Be it tidying up your study table or writing a 1,500 word report, there are some who struggle to get started on their tasks.
That’s where 3 Things comes in – it’s the ideal number of tasks for people who want to organise and prioritise what they want to complete. Of course, this number can be adjusted based on how fast you complete your tasks, but always strive to finish at least 3 by the end of the day.
/prə(ʊ)ˈkrastɪneɪt/
Refusal to start on your work and choosing to play/eat/sleep/do nothing instead.
Example: Xiao Ming chooses to stalk his friends on Instagram instead of starting on his Physics project. It is a bad idea but he does it anyway.
In a survey that we conducted with 121 Singaporean respondents,
- 93% procrastinate!
- Only 14% start on their work immediately after the deadline is assigned.
- 57% avoid doing schoolwork the most.
- Top three things people do when they procrastinate: Go on social media, watch videos and sleep.
PROCRASTINATION
- Weigh which tasks are more important
Organise your tasks in order of importance and gauge how long you’ll take to complete it. - Be realistic
Be honest with yourself – how much work can you finish in a day? (Hint: Three tasks is ideal. You can add more once you’re done) - Level up
Get smaller tasks out of the way before tackling bigger ones. That way, the smaller tasks won’t distract you while you’re working on other stuff.
All talk and no action will only lead to more procrastination, so what are you waiting for? Kickstart your productivity machine by first pledging to not procrastinate, then use our app to set an alarm to remind you when you should #GetItStarted !

Now that you’ve heard of Xiao Ming’s story, check out some others who have procrastinated but decided to take their story endings and turn it around.
I hate doing Math. It got really bad at one point, because I completely stopped handing up my homework. I got detentions and had to stay behind in school, but I still refused to do my work.
But one day, when my end of year examinations were approaching, it suddenly hit me that I had no idea what was going on and I was at risk of retaining if I did not pass Math. I realised I had so much work piled up and felt helpless, but I decided to ask my teacher for help and I completed as much work as I could. I barely scraped a pass in the end, but it sure taught me to not procrastinate again!
I procrastinate a lot when it comes to cleaning my room, especially folding clothes and tidying my table. It wasn’t bad until my clean clothes started mixing with the dirty ones on the floor and I started losing my work. I think my room was quite smelly for a while because I never opened the windows.
The turning point came when I invited my friends over to my place for a school project. I realised that my room smelled so bad and it would be so embarrassing to have dirty clothes lying everywhere, especially since some of my group mates are not very close to me. I took two hours to clean up the entire mess before they came to my place.
I always procrastinate when it comes to washing the dishes. I don’t like the feeling of oil and grease on my hands, so I always leave it till I run out of dishes before I wash those that I need.
I stopped procrastinating one day when I left a pot in the sink for two days – it had some leftover beef stew and it was infested with maggots and the smell was terrible, like rotten meat. I remember the smell until today. From then on I never left any dishes overnight – I never want to see those maggots again.
